Earlier this month, Esquire magazine awarded Stubble & ‘Stache a 2015 Grooming Award for our f*ing amazing Beard Balm. While that, in and of itself, is a huge honor (thank you Esquire!) for me, it is a bit more personal. Every combat veteran knows, far too well...Save

I hear it every day: “isn’t your beard hot in the summer?” and “I could never grow a beard in the summer. It is too hot.” Many people ask why I don’t shave my beard when the weather heats up. Or at least trim it way down. My answer is simple: “do you shave your head in the summer?”

Beard balms are a category of beard care products that help condition and tame your beard. As your beard grows, some of those whiskers can take on a mind of their own. In the early stages, your young beard was just happy to be here…and would do whatever you asked of it. Men who were seemingly invincible, who exuded happiness during the absolute chaos of combat, yet felt they could no longer continue once back in the safety of the country they swore to protect. Why?

Life is good. Your beard is growing in great, the holidays are just around the corner, and your boss is being unusually cool. As you stroll through the office in route to recharge your coffee; it hits you…a combination of stale beer, that steak you ate on Saturday, and a splash of your girl’s perfume. What.The.Hell. It’s Tuesday, but your beard smells like the weekend. As a well-groomed gentleman, this is clearly not okay.

What’s old is new again. Throughout history, barbershops were staples in masculine life. The word “barber” is actually derived from the Latin word barba, which translates into “beard.” In the golden age of ancient Greece, well-trimmed beards were fashionable. In 334 B.C. however, Alexander the Great required his military to be clean-shaven in an attempt to give them an advantage in hand-to-hand combat. This enabled Roman warriors to grasp their enemies by the beard, while safeguarding themselves against this tactic.Save
