What Women Want | #WCW of Substance: Sydney

  • 3 min read

Over the Fourth of July weekend I had the pleasure of talking with Sydney, a published author, blogger, model and marketing guru. Sydney is the author ofThe Coffee Run: And Other Internship Need-to-Knows, sheblogs and speaks about internships and early career to students (she recently spoke at George Washington University's Women in Business Conference). Sydney's been featured in The Huffington Post, TODAY, Grant Cardone TV, Bustle, and more. She's also a model for Heyman Talent Agency. When Sydney is not standing behind the podium or in front of the camera, she helps influencers and brands with their marketing and business development – everything from brand development (logo/brand/website design) and social media campaigns to client acquisition development and lead management.

Nick: What is the first thing you notice about a guy?
Sydney: His eyes. Then his smile.

*wait, not his beard?*

Nick: How do you feel about facial hair?
Now Nick, don’t get me excited...

*ok, now we're talking*

Sydney | why she likes beards

Nick: What's the best way for a guy to get your attention?
Sydney: Eye contact, humor, and confidence are the ultimate trio for getting my attention.

Nick: Have you ever dated a guy with a facial hair?
Sydney: I have. Stubble is sexy.

*Go onnnnnnn...*

Nick: Who is your favorite bearded celebrity?
Sydney: Oof, that’s tough. Right now I’m loving Jake Gyllenhaal, Drake and Chris Hemsworth. Their facial hair is on point.

Sydney Tank

Nick: What's a men's fashion item you wish would go away?
Sydney: Mandals. There’s a time and place for flip flops and sandals, but post-dinner cocktails is not one of them.

Nick: What is something you wish men would wear more often?
Sydney: A classic white or black leather sneaker. They’re easy to dress up or down and they pair well with pretty much anything. Vince and Greats are two brands that have some great-looking shoes for men.

More importantly, I wish every guy would use more stubble & ‘stache.

*I love leather sneakers...and shameless plugs :)*

Nick: Have you ever "campsited" a guy?
Sydney: I believe so. But if I didn’t leave him a better person, I hope I at least left him a better-dressed person.

Nick: Have you ever used your boyfriend's grooming product(s)? Which ones?
Sydney: I have. I’ve used their pomade if I’m going for the slicked back ponytail look for a night out - it adds just enough hold without looking stiff. I also use men’s razors - they work SO much better than any razors for women.

*Razors? Never heard of them*

Nick: Favorite men's scent?
Sydney: Grey Vetiver Tom Ford.

Nick: Any parting thoughts?

Sydney: Yes, of course. I live my life based on an Eleanor Roosevelt quote; which is, “Do one thing every day that scares you.” It doesn’t need to be anything monumental – just something that gets you out of your comfort zone. It’s eye-opening the number of opportunities I encounter when I consciously choose discomfort. Name a major influencer/global game-changer who got to where they are by living a safe, complacent life…
